We were where
you are now
The Path Way Out began as 6 people meeting in a basement. Today it's a global recovery village.

Our story

From basement meetings to a movement

Founded in 2011 by two former addicts and a family therapist, The Path Way Out was born from a simple idea: people recover in community, not in isolation. We blend lived experience, trauma-informed care, mindfulness and practical life rebuilding. No clinics with white walls. No judgment. Just honest conversation, structure and hope that works on Mondays, not just on posters.

We support anyone finding a way out of alcohol, drugs, gambling, porn, disordered eating, anxiety, depression and burnout. If it controls you — we help you take control back.

What we believe

3 truths that set people free

  • Connection heals. Isolation fuels addiction. Belonging starves it.
  • Small wins compound. You don't need willpower for a lifetime. Just for today.
  • Relapse is data, not defeat. 68% of our members who slipped came back stronger within 2 weeks.
Support group holding hands together

“They didn't try to fix me. They sat with me until I could see a door I couldn't see alone. That was my way out.”

— Maya R., sober 4 years, peer mentor

03 / Your first 28 days
A day-by-day
way out
Foggy sunrise path through hills

You don't need to be ready. You just need to be honest for 10 minutes a day. We'll handle the rest together.

Get the 28-day plan
Day 1 — The Honest Hour

One call. One story. No paperwork. You tell us where it hurts. We listen.

Day 3 — Circle Match

We place you in a small group by age, struggle and vibe. Most say “these are my people” in week one.

Day 7 — Clean Week

Sleep returns. Brain fog lifts. You get your first chip — and your first hope.

Day 14 — Roots

Trauma workshop + letter to yourself. Crying is common. So is laughing again.

Day 21 — Rebuild

Money, work, love. You fix one broken window in your life with a mentor beside you.

Day 28 — Way Out Day

You share your story. You light the path for the next newcomer. Freedom loves company.

06 / FAQ
Scared? Skeptical? Good. Ask.

Most people wait 2 years before asking for help. Don't. Every question is welcome here.

Two people supporting each other
Is this religious? Do I have to believe in God? +
No. We are spiritual-friendly but fully secular-inclusive. Atheists, agnostics and believers sit in the same circle. Your higher power can be community, nature, or your future self.
Is it free? What's the catch? +
Peer circles and the 28-day starter are free forever, funded by donations from alumni. Optional therapy labs and retreats have sliding-scale fees. No one is turned away for money.
Do I have to share? I'm introverted. +
You can just listen for your first 3 meetings. Many do. When you're ready, you'll have 7 people who actually want to hear you.
What if I relapse? +
Then you're human. Come back the next day. We have a 24-hour return protocol: no shame lecture, just a reset plan and a mentor call within 12 hours.
Is it anonymous? +
Yes. Use only your first name or nickname. Online circles allow camera-off. What is said in circle stays in circle.
Can family join? +
Absolutely. We have separate family circles on Sundays plus a 4-week boundaries course for partners and parents.
